The undefeated Philippine Women’s National Football Team (PWNFT), nicknamed “Malditas,” is all set to face defending champion Thailand in today’s battle for Group leadership at the 2019 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship.

The Philippine team currently shares with Thailand the 2-0 win-loss and 6 points scorecard in Group A of the AFF Championship.

The Malditas aced its first two games in the series, downing Malaysia, 3-0, on August 15 and afterward crushing Timor-Leste, 7-0, on August 19.

The winner of the August 21 match between Philippines and Thailand will decide the undisputed leader of Group A. The winning team will move on to the knockout match against the Group B leader for the final four berths in the AFF Championship.

Philippine Women’s National Football Team Coach Marnelli “Let” Dimzon revealed to media their goal of reaching the final four so they can face the teams they are likely to meet at the 30th Southeast Asian Games slated to be held in the Philippines from November 30 to December 11, 2019.

“The team must challenge themselves to face once again Thailand and secure a win against Singapore to be able to enter the semis,” Dimzon said.

“I am much excited for the Thailand game. We know that they are strong and experienced but playing against them will be our gauge of where the team is now,” Coach Dimzon added.

The Malditas team has been showing great form this year as it registered the biggest jump at the FIFA World Rankings after its terrific performance at the Olympic Qualifiers in Doha.

Prior to the AFF Championship series, the women’s football squad won their FIFA Friendly match against Macau.

The Malditas’ next two games to watch:

21 August 2019 7:00 PM – Philippines vs. Thailand (IPE Chonburi Field 1)
23 August 2019 4:00 PM – Singapore vs. Philippines (IPE Chonburi Field 1)

The AFF Women’s Championship is being played until August 27 at the Institute of Physical Education in Chonburi, Thailand.

SEND congratulations and well-wishes to the Malditas, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team playing excellently at the 2019 AFF Championship!
