WATCH: New solar energy ambassadors take on Light it Forward challenge

New solar ambassadors Light it Forward
These solar ambassadors for the Light it Forward movement raise awareness to end energy poverty in the Philippines.

These new solar ambassadors took on the eco-friendly Light it Forward video challenge to provide sustainable electricity to Filipinos still living in the dark.

Liter of Light established the solar grassroots movement Light it Forward’s noble cause of giving environment-friendly light sources to homes in need of them the most as part of its campaign to end energy poverty in the Philippines.

Light it Forward also honors the nation’s frontline workers’ efforts and sacrifices of medical frontliners working to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

LIGHT IT FORWARD is a video challenge to hand-build components of solar lamps for 20-30 minutes. Challengers are also asked to dedicate their very own solar lights with encouraging messages for frontliners who have made a positive impact on their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. The solar lamps built by the challengers go straight to homes without light and are changing Filipino lives for the better.

The innovative solar lights have the power to illuminate homes for 12-16 hours a day, for the next five years. A cost-effective lamp can also replace hazardous and traditional forms of lighting relied on by villagers and reduces carbon emissions in the environment by at least 1,000 kg.

The Asia Pacific Social Innovation and Partnership Award (APSIPA) winning campaign has tapped celebrities, influencers, healthcare workers, youth, and professionals who are now working together to raise awareness for millions of energy-poor Filipinos living without modern electricity in the country.
