Are you a Filipino dreaming of an international educational experience? Good news! The European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) is back in the Philippines, opening doors to a myriad of learning possibilities across Europe.

From September 30 to October 2, 2023, esteemed educational institutions from across the European Union (EU) will be showcasing a diverse range of degree programs. Whether you’re interested in the arts or sciences, whether you prefer Belgium or Denmark, your dream school awaits you—both in-person and online.

Through the annual EHEF, Filipinos have found once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for higher education in the EU. This year, 85 higher education institutions and embassies from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Finland, and Sweden will be presenting their degree programs to prospective students.

The 3-day EHEF will have onsite and online iterations:

  • From September 30 to October 1, participants can visit Shangri-La Plaza, Mandaluyong City
  • On October 2, an online fair will be conducted on the European Higher Education Fair’s Facebook page and website.
  • All guests can drop by the fair for free.

Both the largest and longest-standing education fair in the Philippines, EHEF is organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and the European Union Member States Embassies. This year, its theme is “Pathways to Excellence”.

“The European Higher Education Fair reflects the EU’s commitment to providing a diverse array of opportunities, resources, and insights for Filipino students interested in pursuing their higher education in the European Union,” EU Ambassador Luc Véron stated in a welcome message to the expo’s upcoming visitors.

“Our theme ‘Pathways to Excellence’ acknowledges the need for higher education to adapt to the demands of globalization and internationalization, and the quality and variety of the EU’s offer,” the ambassador continued.

Many Filipinos have successfully kickstarted their educational careers in the EU because of the fair. “My experience in the EU has shown me that education and having a culture of excellence brings tremendous prosperity. The secret? They have highly invested in their educational system; moreover, companies and universities have strong research collaborations. I would like to encourage all aspiring students to try to apply for any available EU scholarships,” Edison Macusi, a Filipino who has respectively completed master’s and Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) degrees in Germany and the Netherlands, told EHEF.

Filipino architect Noel C. Cruz is also a thriving member of the Philippines’ roster of students in Europe. “I was a fresh graduate of Architecture when I took the chance of applying to a Master’s degree in Italy. It was a gamble but looking back now I’d say that it was all worth it. It was an experience of many firsts and many discoveries about myself, my chosen career, and the world in general,” he shared with EHEF. He has since completed a bachelor’s degree in Rome and a master’s degree in Milan.

At the fair, visitors can explore their options on the following:

  • To pursue bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. programs in the EU
  • Information on scholarships, costs of education
  • English proficiency requirements
  • Top fields of study
  • Visa procedures
  • Application timelines will be discussed at the expo
  • Additionally, language corners will be established at EHEF for Filipinos looking to expand their linguistic knowledge.

“On-site seminars will be hosted by the EU Member States’ Embassies and Cultural Institutes. These engaging sessions will provide in-depth information on higher education systems, ‘student life’ in the EU, research grants, and scholarship opportunities like Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, and Jean Monnet, open for students and educators alike,” EHEF added in a press release.
