Broadway’s Jhett Tolentino wins 9th award for bio-docu “Life Is What You Make It”

Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino’s foray into filmmaking has given him a 9th award for his self-produced biographical documentary, “Life Is What You Make It”, this time from the prestigious New Vision International Film Festival (NVIFF) in Amsterdam The Netherlands.

“Life Is What You Make It” won Best Documentary Short at the 2019 edition of the NVIFF, besting eight other nominees in the category during competitions held on September 26.

The NVIFF award is Jhett Tolentino’s 9th win after receiving recognition from the New Harvest Film Festival in Russia, the Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival in India, Germany, Australia, Costa Rica, Chile, Thailand, and Venezuela.

Jhett Tolentino is a Philippine born-and-raised Broadway producer who has won a Grammy and 3 Tony Awards. He went to the United States in 2004 has since produced more than 10 Broadway plays and has received 2 Drama Desk Awards, 2 Drama League Awards, 3 Outer Critics, a Lucille Lortel Award, an Off-Broadway Alliance Award, and in 2014 was recognized as The Outstanding Filipino American in New York.

“Life Is What You Make It” tells the story of Jhett Tolentino’s journey from the slums of Iloilo City to New York. The film is Tolentino’s way of inspiring people about his journey.

“Life Is What You Make It” will next screen as part of the official selection at the Polish International Film Festival to be held from October 21-25, 2019 in Warsaw, Poland, the 28th country that has hosted the screening of the bio docu.

Jhett Tolentino also produced the film “Lingua Franca” by Filipino auteur Isabel Sandoval, which premiered in Venice in September. The romantic drama between two immigrants in Brighton Beach screened at the 24th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea where Filipino actor Maja Salvador won the Asia Contents Award for Best Actress.
