Filipinos make up the largest group of foreign business owners in the United Kingdom, according to research from ETX Capital.

Filipinos are the most common business owners in the United Kingdom, based on the new research conducted by London-based financial company ETX Capital.

The study found that Filipino was the most widely reported nationality among business owners in the UK, excluding other nationalities such as English, Scottish, Welsh or British.

Using the data of over 200,000 UK business owners sourced from Companies House, ETX Capital discovered that the top foreign business owners in the study were both Asian: Filipino and Chinese.

Filipinos outnumbered other nationalities in the ranking with a total of 5,090 business owners or 2.65 percent of those who participated in the survey.

Chinese entrepreneurs followed at a close second with 4,178 business owners or 2.17 percent. The study also found that over a quarter of the top twenty nationalities originate in Asia, with Pakistani and Indian ranking at 4th and 5th, respectively, followed by Turkish (9th) and Bangladeshi (20th).

The London-based firm also published a ranking of business owners by country of residence. Like the previous list, ETX Capital decided to focus on countries outside of the UK.

Filipinos also made up the majority of business owners who said they lived outside of the UK.

Filipinos also made up the majority of business owners who said they lived outside of the UK, with 4,984 or 2.59 percent reporting that they resided in the Philippines.

According to the report, the study is a “great demonstration of the United Kingdom’s continuing diversity when it comes to its businesses. People from all over globe are contributing to the country’s economy and in return, they’re seeing their own goals and dreams come to life.”

The December 2021 research from ETX Capital cites its primary source as Companies House’s ‘people with significant control (PSC) snapshot’. From the data, the company collated a sample of over 200,000 people.
