The country’s biggest independent film festival returns for its second online edition this year, with the added outdoor viewing experience of the films in Cinema Under the Stars at the Liwasang Ulalim, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex.

Cinemalaya announced the winners for this year’s festival during a virtual awards ceremony live-streamed on its official Facebook page on August 19, 2021.

The short film “An Sadit na Planeta” bagged the most awards in the competition, including Audience Choice, Special Jury Prize, and NETPAC Jury Prize.

“An Sadit na Planeta” (The Little Planet) by Arjanmar Rebeta follows the adventure of a young man as he explores a little planet.

Myra Aquino’s “Beauty Queen” about a young woman who struggles to find herself after losing her father during World War II bagged the prestigious Balanghai trophy for Best Film.

Mystica-starrer “Kids On Fire” took home the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Direction for its story of a prepubescent boy who discovers his special role in the impending apocalypse during a religious camp.

  • Best Screenplay – “Kids on Fire” by Kyle Nieva
  • Audience Choice Award – “An Sadit na Planeta” by Arjanmar Rebeta
  • Special Jury Prize – “An Sadit na Planeta” by Arjanmar Rebeta
  • NETPAC Jury Prize – “An Sadit na Planeta” by Arjanmar Rebeta
