The Philippine Volcanoes went up 11 places in the World Rugby Rankings – its best record as the national team.
The Men’s Rugby Team standing soared to the 42nd spot after it successfully defended its Asia Rugby Division 1 title in a thrilling match against Singapore on June 1.
The back-to-back Asia Rugby Division 1 champion team from the Philippines faced its SEA rivals and emerged with a big win.
“Having two back-to-back games like this in quick succession was a big test and we showed immense determination to get over the line,” said team captain Danny Bembo Matthews.
“It’s an important win for us. Our role as a team is to help with the development of rugby in the Philippines and to see the likes of Kingsley (Ballesteros) come off the bench is a testament to growth and development game. He’s come through the ranks and so it’s so good to see this experience for him,” added Matthews.
SEND your congratulations to the Philippine Volcanoes, the Asian Rugby Division 1 champion!
