Rizal-based designer Michael Leyva creates personal protective suits, head covers, face masks for frontliners

Rizal-based designer Michael Leyva and his team released the first batch of personal protective suits, head covers, and face masks that he created for frontliners in the fight against the coronavirus disease pandemic.

The celebrity fashion designer posted photos on social media on March 25, 2020, showing several bags containing the personal protective equipment (PPE) and himself with actress-humanitarian aid worker Angel Locsin who has been assisting healthcare workers and hospitals.

Angel Locsin also posted a story on her Instagram thanking Michael Leyva for his hard work and service.

Each PPE bag bears a card addressed to the frontliners and signed by Michael Leyva.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10,” he wrote on the card.

Leyva first announced on March 24 the photos of his workshop with his team busily creating the specially designed PPEs.

@iamchubby commented words of encouragement and wisdom on the photos, saying, “Someday the kindness you give out will come back to you. Maybe not as soon as you’d like but it will be here. Threefold, sixfold, tenfold. Your life will be full of ‘Thank You'”.

Michael Leyva is an established name in the fashion industry. He has made many celebrity gowns that were featured locally and internationally.

At the world premiere of the Hollywood film Crazy Rich Asians, Filipino celebrity Kris Aquino was seen proudly wearing a yellow classic modern Filipiniana by Michael Leyva of Rizal whose Filipino cutters and sewers she acknowledged.

Filipino artists have been helping the country’s frontliners and sectors affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, among them, #ArtForMedPH visual artists who give away commissioned work in exchange for donations to charity and OPM artists performing in the Bayanihan Musikahan FB Live Concert Series to raise funds for Metro Manila’s urban poor.
