The 2019 South East Asian (SEA) Games soundtrack sung by Broadway royalty Lea Salonga has been launched in Manila.

The multiawarded musical theatre actress performed the soundtrack in a music video for the 30th SEA Games scheduled to be hosted by the Philippines on November 30 to December 11, 2019.

The SEA Games music video was presented to media on September 3 at Resorts World Manila by Lea Salonga and the song’s composer, National Artist for Music, Ryan Cayabyab. The song lyrics were written by Palanca award-winning writer and director Floy Quintos.

The song title, “We Win As One”, serves as the SEA Games Philippines’ theme. Original Pilipino Music (OPM) advocate Ryan Cayabyab told media present how the tagline works to unite the Filipino nation as it established relationships with Asian countries.

“The tagline We Win As One, yun pa lang napaka-laking inspiration na. We’re not just talking about ourselves as a nation, we’re also talking about our relationship with our neighboring countries,” the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee said.

Broadway star Lea Salonga shared her enthusiasm in representing the Philippines, saying, “Parang nasa balikat ko pa rin yung bayan ko (I always carry my country is on my shoulders). So for me, I always have to put my best foot forward kasi you never know who’s watching. When it’s very specific for something like this, that’s when I really have to be really mindful, every note I sing dapat walang mali, dapat hindi sintunado (there should be no errors, no missed notes). Because I know that there’s a greater impression to made, it’s not just Lea Salonga singing. It’s Lea Salonga from the Philippines.”

Lea Salonga performed “We Win As One” live at the press launch. The music video shows the musical theatre actress donning a red Filipiniana gown amidst a background of images of the 2019 SEA Games sporting venue at the New Clark City and the country’s national athletes.

The music collaboration between the multi-awarded Filipina Broadway star and the Philippines’ National Artist for Music was first teased on social media by the 2019 SEA Games Organizing Committee on August 24.

Apl de Ap and the Black Eyed Peas were also recently confirmed to be collaborating with Cayabyab as part of the 2019 SEA Games opening and closing ceremonies.
