Team Philippines nab 4 golds in Thailand Ju-jitsu Open Grand Prix 2019

The winning team is composed of 8 women and 2 men Jiu-jitsu athletes. Credits to Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Philippines.

Team Philippines’ Jiu-Jitsu athletes brought home a total of 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronze medals from the Thailand Ju-jitsu Open Grand Prix 2019.

The country’s 10 bemedalled national athletes competed in the international tournament from August 10 to 11 2019 held in Rangsit University, Thailand.

The winning team of 8 women and 2 men from the Jiu-jitsu Federation of the Philippines was led by head coach Hansel Co and Coach Ali Sulit, assisted by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

The results of the Philippine campaign at the Thailand Ju-jitsu Open Grand Prix 2019 are as follows:

Men’s

  • Jan Vincent Cortez – Gold, -56kg
  • Peter Lawrence Meimban – Bronze, +94kg

Women’s

  • Samantha dela Costa – Gold, -45kg
  • Kimberly Anne Custodio – Gold, -48kg
  • Danica Palanca – Silver, -45kg
  • Estee Liwanen – Silver, -57kg
  • Natasha Rodriguez – Silver, -70kg
  • Sarah Antonio-Tagle – Bronze, -52kg
  • Geli Bulaong – Bronze, -57kg

Women Under 18

  • Dylan Valmores – Gold, +70kg

The country’s Jiu-Jitsu athletes have been making great strides in international competitions including the gold-winning performance of Meggie Ochoa in Mongolia, and Annie Ramirez and Gian Dee in Abi Dhabi.
