University of Santo Tomas Singers Alumni from around the world gathered together online singing the OPM classic “Isang Lahi, Isang Dugo, Isang Musika” to spread hope, national unity, and inspire Filipinos at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Using smartphones and tablets, almost 100 alumni of the award-winning UST Singers from all over the world individually recorded their voices and blended together with the help of modern-day technology. The UST Singers sang the choral version of the song which won the KBP Musicfest 2nd place for composer Dodjie Simon and performed by the “Prince of Ballad”, Richard Reynoso.
The video was dedicated to frontliners from all over the world who selflessly put their lives at risk.
Uploaded on April 24, 2020, on the University of Santo Tomas Singers Facebook, the music video is led by their conductor, Prof. Fidel Gener Calalang Jr., choral arrangement done by Dr. Joel Navarro, and Accompaniment Track Arrangement by Paulo Zarate.
At the beginning of the video, Calalang gave a message that encouraged Filipinos to do their share to help the nation and thanked frontliners for their sacrifices.
“We come together as one family, praying for everyone’s health and safety. Let’s continue fighting for each other and believe that we are One Blood, One Nation, and in One Music we will thrive and heal as one,” said Calalang.
The University of the Philippines Singing Ambassadors (UPSA) members and alumni from around the world also came together to sing “The Prayer” to honor doctors and frontliners’ who have lost their lives to COVID-19, and the UP College of Medicine Choir sang the PGH Hymn to encourage doctors at the COVID-19 referral center.
The University of Santo Tomas Singers (USTS) achieved a historical first 3-peat win at the Choir of the World Championships.
