Hit Filipino musical “Ang Huling El Bimbo” (AHEB) successfully raised more than Php 12 million in donations from viewers after it was streamed online via ABS-CBN online platforms.

Full House Theater Company (FHTC), the creator of the original Pinoy musical based on the music of 90s iconic band Eraserheads, announced the good news on May 18, 2020.

The Resorts World Manila-based theater company thanked the generosity of the audience who extended monetary support to their crowdfunding project for the ABS-CBN Foundation’s Pantawid ng Pag-ibig programs to help families severely affected by the lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus disease.

The musical, top-billed by the First Lady of the Philippine musical theater Menchu Lauchengco Yulo and balladeer Gian Magdangal, gained massive support from the audiences who watched the online streaming on May 8 and 9.

Ang Huling El Bimbo claimed the top trending spot on YouTube, and garnered more than 7 million combined views on Facebook and YouTube.

Most importantly, the AHEB online streaming succeeded in raising the huge amount that will be used to aid poor families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Kami ngayo’y lumilipad at nasa langit na…dahil sa tindi ng inyong naging suporta!” the Full House Theater Company said on their social media post. “Salamat sa lahat ng nag-donate! Marami po tayong matutulungan dahil dito.”

Other Filipino artists have been using their talents and passion for music to raise funds to provide aid to frontliners in the battle against COVID-19 and to help poor families who lost their sources of income due to the implementation of the community quarantine.

Among them, National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab who raised almost Php 3 million through his FB concert called Bayanihan Musikahan. The collected donations were intended for poor communities.

International singer-actress Lea Salonga held a free online concert on Facebook and raised almost Php 2 million overnight for the health workers and urban poor.
